Description
Goya S-16 Acoustic GuitarThe S-16 is similar to the Martin 000-18. It was produced by Levin in Sweden from 1958 to 1964. In 1965 it was replaced with the T-16 which has different fretboard markers. These were high quality instruments back in the day. Adjusted for inflation, guitar with case would cost over ,000 before tax today. See advertisement and inflation calculator.
Features:
-All solid wood construction
-Mahogany back, sides and neck
-Alpine spruce top.
-Scalloped X-bracing (gives amazing bass response)
-Excellent action and playability for a late 50’s-early 60’s guitar
-Bone nut, saddle and bridge pins
-Comes with original hard case
Flaws:
-Top has a gouge (left lower bout). Doesn’t go all the way through. Someone appears to have sealed it with a clear glue of some sort. Looks like a stable repair to me.
-There’s a lot of finish checking as you would expect from a very old nitrocellulose coating. I think it looks cool, but it’s not everyone’s style (see pics).
-Original hard case has a musky basement type odor. Guitar doesn’t, though.
