Description
For sale is a 1962 Epiphone Caballero (model FT-30), first cousin to a Gibson LG-0. This guitar is a wonderful player with some nice upgrades... Caballero's of this vintage are 14 fret, ladder braced, solid mahogany back, sides, and top; 1 11/16 nut width; Brazilian rosewood fretboard, excellent C-shape (think Martin) neck, made in Kalamazoo, MI. It has been fitted with a new rosewood bridge that replaces the terrible original plastic bridge and associated tone-sucking screws and nuts. Other upgrades include a new bone saddle and nut, new maple bridge plate, replaced frets 1-6, and a K&K pick up. The straightedge test to determine neck straightness finds the straightedge landing right at the base of the saddle...where it should be. No neck reset needed! The action is spot-on. Tortoise pick guard and binding are in excellent shape. There are various nicks, and a few larger scrapes, and there is a filled-in jack opening on one side of the lower bout (see last photo), but otherwise the condition and finish are in a very good state. The guitar comes with it's original, arch top case. Though not technically hardshell, these cases are more rigid that the typical chipboard case. All latches and hinges in good working condition and inside is clean and plush. Gibson and Epiphone guitars of this era are wonderful sounding guitars for their size, solid bass and resonant mid and treble. Really fun to play and a serious blues box! From a pet-free, smoke-free home.
